Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A protest demanding the repair of dilapidated roads in Howrah’s Belilious Road area escalated into a clash between demonstrators and police on Tuesday. The agitation, led by ISF workers, began with a blockade that disrupted traffic. Tensions rose when police attempted to remove the protesters, leading to a physical altercation. Officials accused some demonstrators of assaulting a police officer, after which security forces moved in to disperse the crowd. Several ISF workers were detained, and reinforcements were deployed to control the situation.
According to eyewitnesses, protesters staged a sit-in, shouting slogans demanding immediate road repairs. As the police intervened, a scuffle broke out, resulting in a law enforcement officer falling to the ground. “The road conditions are unbearable, and we want immediate action,” a protester said. The blockade led to traffic congestion in the area, affecting commuters and local businesses. Authorities later confirmed that multiple arrests were made, and legal action would follow as per regulations.
The police presence remained heavy in the area following the unrest. Officials stated that steps were being taken to address the grievances related to road conditions but warned against any attempts to disrupt public order. The detained protesters were taken to the police station for questioning. No official statement was issued regarding injuries, but security forces continued to monitor the area to prevent further escalation.
